How to Measure Local Marketing Beyond Views

Sam&Sain Co. · 30 September 2026 · 5 minute read

Views show that content travelled. Bookings, visits and contribution tell an owner whether the campaign was worth extending.

A campaign report can show thousands of views while the owner still cannot answer a basic question: did more people book, visit or buy? Views tell you that content was distributed. To decide whether to spend more, follow the path from attention to a completed customer action and be honest about the gaps in that path.

Choose One Outcome Before the Campaign Starts

“More awareness” is difficult to evaluate on its own. A restaurant might want more Tuesday tables; a local service business might want more qualified consultation requests. Write down the target, the location and the period you will compare. Then record the usual level of activity before changing the campaign. A Friday peak cannot fairly be credited to a Tuesday promotion, and a seasonal change can look like a campaign effect.

Keep Four Stages Separate

  1. Attention: people who were shown or played the content. This tells you about distribution and creative interest.
  2. Intent: visits to the relevant page, clicks for directions or the booking button, and calls. Confirm the eventual purchase separately.
  3. Completion: submitted enquiries, confirmed bookings or orders. Keep failed forms and abandoned booking steps visible so a broken path does not look like weak demand.
  4. Business result: attended visits, completed orders and the contribution left after the direct cost of serving them.

Google's Business Profile reports calls as clicks on the call button and website clicks as clicks on the website link. Neither number tells you how many conversations were answered or sales completed. Your booking system, front desk or point of sale must close that gap.

Use the Drop-Off to Choose the Next Fix

Hypothetical example: imagine a local film receives 20,000 plays, 120 people reach the booking page, 18 complete a reservation and 12 attend. The play count does not tell you whether the right neighbourhood saw it. The gap between page visits and reservations points toward the offer or booking experience; the gap between reservations and attendance points toward reminders or operations. The 12 visits are tracked outcomes, but without a sound comparison you cannot claim that all 12 were caused by the film.

Include production time, fees, media spend and discounts when you assess cost. Cost per attended booking is a useful operating measure if the bookings can be traced; it is not the same as incremental profit or lifetime customer value. BDC's customer-acquisition method likewise includes sales and marketing costs rather than ad spend alone.

Turn the Report into a Decision

If attention is low, test the creative or distribution. If attention is strong but few people take the next step, test the audience, offer and destination page. If bookings arrive but people do not show up, fix the handoff before buying more traffic. When attended visits rise, compare the gain with total campaign cost and the capacity to serve those customers well. Keep the same definitions from month to month so the trend means something.

Our marketing work pairs content with measurement; the film gallery shows the creative side.
